Classic Editor Demystified

Core to the blogging experience is the editor used to create content. Xidipity includes an enhanced version of the WordPress editor which supports many useful features tailored to the needs of authors.

Without doubt the most important component of any blogging software is the editor. The editors which ship with WordPerfect are TinyMCE and CodeMirror. TinyMCE is used to create blog posts and supports editing in a visual mode as well as making changes to the underlying HTML code. Automattic’s vision for WordPerfect beginning with version 5 is an emphasis on visual editing. This will be accomplished with the introduction of a customized version of TinyMCE named Gutenberg.

The current TinyMCE editor will be re-branded as the classic editor

More for developers than authors, CodeMirror is the editor used to edit core files such as Cascading Style Sheets or PHP files. Available on Xidipity.com is a page configured as a Sandbox editor which is also based on CodeMirror.

Xidipity comes with an enhanced classic TinyMCE editor and the following list is the menu options which I refer to as editing tools.

The toolbar icons are a mixed lot at the moment with some icons being pulled from the Classic Editor defaults and others being pulled from the Google Icon repository. Cleaning this up is a todo for future releases.
